Go and Do
Scripture: Mark 11:1-6
"Jesus gave two
disciples a task, saying to them, ‘Go into the village over there. As soon as
you enter it, you will find tied up there a colt that no one has ridden. Untie
it and bring it here. If anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘Its
master needs it, and he will send it back right away.’” (Common English Bible, vv 2,3)
Sometimes God is so
unreasonable – asking us to do things that seem impossible, ridiculous, or so
counter cultural that everything within us resists. Knowing this, we avoid
those requests by keeping a fast pace, ignoring that still small voice, and keeping a list of responses ready as to why we
can’t do, what the Lord is asking us to do.
Jesus told two of his
disciples to go get the first colt they saw and bring it back. Much to our
surprise, they did. We are surprised because because we have played out the scenario in our
head and we convince ourselves that
no one is going to give up their "colt" or anything else, just because we tell
them the Lord sent us. Because of our lack of confidence in God, we often miss
out on being a part of the Divine story.
May this Holy Week be a time
for us to just go and do as the Lord has commanded.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, my feet are slow, my hands trembling, but
I trust you to lead me, so that I may do what is pleasing and acceptable in
your sight. Amen.
